Karla Homolka met her first husband, Paul Bernardo, at the age of 17 and was fully supportive of his sadistic sexual tendencies. Together, Paul and Karla would end up raping and murdering multiple young women, including Karla’s own sister.
In February 1993, after being beaten by Paul, Karla told family and police that Paul was responsible for the crimes. She accepted a plea bargain of 12 years while Paul was sentenced to life in prison. Did she deserve a harsher sentence or was she a victim of spousal abuse and forced to engage in these crimes by Paul?
